Are you stressed about things going on at school, or at home? Perhaps a relationship? A lot of times stress is the major cause of not being able to sleep, as stress releases chemicals in your body, that increase adrenaline, which gives you the boost of energy.

The biggest factor will be because of stress and over thinking. If you're continuously stressing out you will feel to tense to be able to relax. Stress affects our bodies and mind. Overthinking is also affected by stress. If you overthink you aren't letting your mind rest thus keeping you awake. If it helps, perhaps write out your thoughts so you aren't so jumbled and scatter brained as one would say.

It may be something as simple as you're too hot or cold, to your mind doesn't sleep when your body needs to. Try calming your thoughts and breathing deeply. Don't get frustrated because you can't sleep, because that will only make sleep even more unattainable.

In a few studies, they say that you should not go onto technology an hour before you go to sleep. Also having caffeine anytime after the late afternoon can affect your sleep. A good technique is to write down on a piece of paper what you need to do or is worrying you and therefore you would not need to think so much before you sleep.

Maybe you over think at night, it's normal because you do lot of things in the morning and evening and it all comes at night, maybe you can talk with a listener so you leave it all and try to rest :)
