Sleep goes in cycles throughout the night, moving from deeper, slow wave sleep to lighter sleep. You could be experiencing a sleep disorder, it could range from different conditions; Anxiety, Stress or even Sleep Apnea , where a person stops breathing intermittently throughout the night causing disrupted sleep.Sometimes it's something else inside your body that's triggering problems with staying asleep. For instance, indigestion can wake you up in the middle of the night if you ate too big of a meal before bedtime. And people who have certain psychiatric conditions like bipolar disorder are also known to be more prone to waking up. I would definitely consult a physician. Getting treatment will definitely help you feel better all around.

No, a sleep pattern which gives you a solid, undisturbed and restful 6-8 hours *at least*, during the night time, is a healthy sleep pattern. You need to have good quality sleep in order for your body to heal, your metabolism to function efficiently and for your brain to function. Poor sleep quality can be a symptom or cause of depression and/or mood trouble and give you a less satisfying waking life by making you drowsy, non-alert and forgetful. If you're struggling with sleep there are lots of natural and pharmacological therapies which can help, it's worth do some research or even seeing a GP or naturopath.

It can be. There are many different types of sleeping rhythms that work for people. But typically people don't try to have multiple sleeping episodes a day. This can be a sign of a medical problem like sleep apnea and may need to be discussed with a healthcare professional.

I do not think that sounds like a healthy way to sleep. I know that sleep patterns vary depending upon your age, but everyone needs at least six hours a sleep a night. I've had good luck with Melatonin but also refraining from electronic device use at least a half hour prior to bed (including TV), going to bed at the same time each night and getting up around the same time (if you can do that) will help. But lots of stuff affects our sleep, including emotional distress. Anxiety is a big trigger for me. I hope talking about it here helps. And our self-help guide also has great pointers on this topic!

Without a doubt. It is extremely normal, however there are usually medical reasons for it happening. For instance, before my finals, I never slept regularly for like 2 weeks. After I wrote them, I slept like a baby.
If you cant find any personal reasons then I suggest getting it checked out, because sleep apnoea is a serious problem and can affect your performance during the day and your logical thinking.
I don't even want to tell what sort of nonsense I bought online during that time. Just tell me one thing: what exactly do I do with 3 microwaves?

Generally, our body needs 6 hours to sleep every 24 hours. But it's not impossible for it to be able to adapt to an erratic schedule if it is needed. As long as we can maintain our body to be healthy (no complaining about headache, muscleache, etc), I think it is normal.

It is not very healthy to have this kind of sleep disturbed and erratic sleep schedule with you waking up at every few hours because in the morning it'll make you tired, unmotivated to get things done and feeling the need to sleep through the day.
