I've tried doing this many times and the only times I've ever succeeded is when I've actually had a reason to get up beyond just wanting to or promising myself that I'll wake up earlier. Depending on your reason for wanting to wake up earlier maybe set yourself a challenge; go for a walk/jog before work or school, get your housework done so you don't have to after school/work. But, and this is the important thing, you have to remember not to sabotage your effort by staying up too late first. No one will want to get out of bed to do anything if they don't get enough sleep first!

Easing in to it can help. Plan to wake up a bit earlier each day before you need to be up earlier. This can also help with getting to bed earlier each night, as there's still a decent amount of awake time in between getting up and going to bed.

Waking up early is a good thing to do when you want to get things done early. Before going to sleep, breathe deeply in and out for 7 or 8 times. Then do a eye exercise where you focus onto a distant object then to a nearer object. Do it for 1 minute. When going to sleep, don't think too much. Think of the happy thoughts then dose off.

Make sure you're getting to bed at a good time and you could try looking into sleep cycles. That way you would be waking up with your natural biological clock.

I find it easy to set an alarm on a cell phone, and at night turn it to vibrate and leave it on a hard surface near you. This makes a loud noise that wakes you up faster. If this doesn't work, set an alarm and put it across the room- therefore, you have to get out of bed to turn it off.

Going early to sleep seems like a cliché answer but it's true. Since the average person needs about 7-9 hours of sleep, trying to go to sleep that many hours before can actually work

Start by going to bed a bit earlier every night. An effective way of doing this can be to: plan you time during the day so that your work or time committed to something other than sleeping won't lead you up to a late time at night. Get things done earlier. Also, stay away from bright lights (this prevents the production of melatonin in your brain, a vital chemical for sleeping), including phones, TVs, and computers before bed time. Try drinking some Rooibos tea before bed -- that really helps as a natural sedative. After a while of doing this, you'll find yourself waking up early easily and you'll feel rested!

I think you should find yourself something to do daily when you wake up that you are enthusiastic about, so that way you would want to wake up early, and you can put up an alarm for the time you want to wake up at.
