Perhaps you should try dealing with the emotions instead of just pushing them away. Unresolved issues could honestly be a huge part of your not sleeping well in the first place.

I always used to struggle sleeping and I went to different places looking for an answer. I found that reading a book is very helpful to get you to sleep beause your eyes grow heavy when you keep your eyes concentrated on something.

First, try not to move at all: find the position you feel the most confortable and stick to it. When you get moving a lot, it becomes harder to fall asleep. Also, try not thinking about anything, clear your mind and focus in the void. If your head is fulfilled with adrenaline and constant thoughts, you'll be awake for even longer. Finally, take slow and steady breathes, close your eyes just gently and let time do the best for you...
