Maybe you could try reading or talking on the phone and then winding down. I'm sure making sure the lights are off can help you to fall asleep instead of staring at the ceiling.

Listen to some classical music. Wear some comfortable clothing. Close your eyes and try and clear your mind. There is this method that starts with concentrating on your toes and making your way up your entire body; it helps a lot of people to sleep. If things are getting really bad, try and see you doctor about it.

Listen to relaxing music, don't look at any electronics or harsh lighting 30 minutes prior to going to bed, read and have a large meal for dinner.

For me, being grateful about your day can help. Not counting blessings. Just feeling great about the positive aspects in your life. :)

One thing I do to get to sleep is to start at 1000 and count backwards down to 0 in groups of 6,7,8, or 9. This has never failed to put me to sleep and I usually don't get past 700! Another idea is to listen to an audiobook. BAckground noise can really help you to fall asleep. Avoiding caffience, alcohol nicotine and drugs is also important in mainting a regular sleep cycle, as is having a routine and keeping your room dark.

I've found white noise to be especially helpful in getting to sleep. Just put in some headphones and focus on the white noise.
