do not allow it to wander take it from me, do whatever it takes to keep your mind busy all hours of the day, the second you lose control and let your mind take control is when it goes into a fog and you start thinking negatively, dont try to focus on too many things at once though to distract yourself, focus it on one thing lay in your bed listen to your favorite song and focus all your attention on that.

Shutting off your mind if you are trying to focus on something specific vs. shutting off your mind because you are feeling overwhelmed can require different techniques, but the basic principals are the same: Practice. Practice breathing exercises. Draw your breath from deep in your belly and focus on that breath moving through your body. Practice Visualization: See your breath moving through your body, relaxing your muscles, or see the goal you want to accomplish and break it into steps. Practice Self-Validation: Be encouraging towards yourself, don’t get irritated or angry if you don’t fix things right away. Repeat or write out words of affirmation for yourself. Practice Mindfulness: What are your current emotions, how is your body responding, what is happening in your surroundings, see them, experience them. Don't try to change it, accept it.

Find something you love, & do it. for example, I love writing & always have a pen and pad on me so anywhere I am and anytime I am anxious or distracted, I just whip out my handy dandy pad and scribble down feelings, lyrics, ideas, lists, etc.

Taking a moment to breathe and stepping back from the situation would be the first step. I find that music can really help with turning your head off and noise in general can sometimes help. Focusing on something very specific could possible help. Writing down what is distracting you can possibly help as well.
