Why don't i want to stop self harming, i know its bad but i just don't want to stop and it scares me?

Self harm is definitely scary. But what cause you to self harm? What happens to make you want to start hurting yourself. Have you tried other outlets? I’m here to help you and to listen. So often we have internalized wounds and scars that we feel may never heal and we use self-harming as a way to release that pain. Through this we feel a sense of ease to our internal pain. However, giving ourselves scars externally will not heal our internal wounds. This idea is temporary and can only provide a temporary relief to our real and unending pain. Stepping away from this activity means coming to peace with the fact that external pain does not heal internal wounds. It deals with releasing that pain in a more healthy way, a way that leaves a lasting and profound effect. A way that doesn't hurt.

People self harm for different reasons, for some it can be a form of punishment , for some it is a coping mechanism, when self harming your body releases endorphins which can make you feel "better", some may cut as a way of making their problems as something tangible and controllable. It is a way for some to deal with strong emotions they might be feeling, a way to express them. But there are other healthier coping mechanisms that can work even better and in the long run will make you feel much happier. If you want to stop harming yourself, try to find a different coping mechanism that you think might help you deal with your distress, the best way is to choose a mechanism that you are willing to adapt that is less harmful, for example if you are cutting you can use a rubber band instead and give yourself a way to cope that feels similiar to cutting but is much less harmful for you.
