The Butterfly Project has been created for self-harmers who feel they are ready to stop and need the motivation or support to do so. All you have to do is simply draws a butterfly where you'd normally self-harm and, if the butterfly fades without you self-harming, it means it has lived and flown away.

the butterfly project is where people draw butterflies on themselves instead of self harming. If someone else draws one on you, it's extra special. If you harm when the butterfly is there, you kill it.

It is a project of stopping self harm. I can say that it's a very good project and it helped me a lot. You should draw a butterfly on your skin and give a name of a person you love. Don't wash it by yourself and don't hurt yourself. If you hurt yourself, the butterfly will die. And nobody wants the butterfly with the name of dear person to die. So it helps. When you care about this butterfly, you care about your dear person. You don't think about yourself and self harm at this moment. You feel like you have responsibility for your activities. Or you just feel sorry to kill this wonderful butterfly.

The Butterfly Project is a great way to cope with self harm. What you do, is any time you feel like hurting yourself, cutting for example, draw a butterfly with a Sharpie or permanent marker on the area you feel like inflicting the cuts, maybe give the butterfly a name, like the name of a loved one. So it means cutting will kill the butterfly. And when that butterfly starts to fade, your scars will too. And if you keep feeling the need to self harm, just draw another one. It keeps you from hurting yourself and it's a great way to overcome self harm.
