It's a project to try to help people fight the urge of self harming.
It consists in drawing a butterfly where the self harm would have been done whenever you feel like self harming and naming it after someone who matters to you. If you self harm before the butterfly has faded away (you can't scrub it off), it dies, and if you don't, it lives.

You draw a butterfly whenever you want to cut yourself (draw it with a marker) and name it after loved one (best friend,girlfriend/boyfriend, etc). These butterflies are special and take care of them, that means you MUSTN'T cut yourself or scrub the butterfly off.

It's to support self-harm survivors. You draw a butterfly on your left wrist if you are a survivor of self-harm, and you draw a butterfly on your right wrist to support those who harm themselves or once did.

A couple of people tried this and found out that pen washes off pretty quickly, so to make it last longer, I thought of starting with a caterpillar, when that washes off a cocoon, and then a butterfly! Or you could draw the butterflies with permanenet markers. You could also draw other things, not just butterflies, but hearts, stars, and tribal designs for the boys and more. You could also write the names of your friends and family, so that when you feel the need to injure, you see the reminder that you are trying to stop not just for your loved ones, but for youself. People also tried using song lyrics or quotes.

The Butterfly project is for those who would like to stop self harm by drawing a butterfly in the places they feel the urge to harm themselves and knowing that if they can resist the urge to do so the butterfly will be set free. It can be the fact that they don't want to harm the butterfly or someone who they value in life and relating them to the butterfly. If they don't hurt them they don't hurt themselves.

The butterfly project is a substitution for self harm. As you or someone who cares about you draw a butterfly in your wrist and name them as the person who cares about you. If you self harm, the butterfly dies as well as the person who cares about you (figuratively) it means that you gave up on them. There are also rules like you can't rub or wipe it.. It should fade away for days

The Butterfly Project is aimed to self-harm control and recovering. It consists of drawing a butterfly in your body everytime you feel the urge to harm yourself. Once you do it, you must name this butterfly after someone you care about; someone who you wouldn't like to see hurt. The goal is to avoid harming yourself while they're in your skin; you must not brush them off and wait for them to get out of there naturally. While that, you will probably have calmed down and had the opportunity to reflect if you must harm yourself or not. This project aims to raise awareness and the well-being for those struggling with self-harming. It is one of the most widespread coping methods.
