Self harm constitutes the intention to harm oneself. So yes. intention is everything no matter how trivial you think the harm to yourself was. So it could range from just hitting yourself with a ruler to cutting yourself with a knife. Both are not alright if your intention was to self harm. If you feel like what I've described matches your situation, please reach out to someone. Listeners on 7 cup as well as therapists/psychologists will be your non-judgemental sources of help. Even if you feel that your self-harm situation is trivial now, I would urge you to get help as prevention is better than cure.

pretty much any form of self inflicted pain, it doesn't even have to be physical, you may find that you put yourself through situations you know are going to hurt you/your feelings and you want that, that could also be counted as self harm

A lot of people think that something only "counts" as self-harm if it leaves physical scars (cutting, burning), but self-harm is anything that you do voluntarily with the objective to hurt yourself. It can be cutting or burning but it can also be starving yourself, hitting walls with your bare hands among other things.

Anything you do to yourself to deliberately cause pain or injury. This can include cutting, but also bruising or other things a person might to with the goal of hurting themselves.

There are many definitions of it, but the one that I follow mostly is the deliberate damaging of one's body tissue, without the intent to suicide. The exact definition of self-harm is very varied, and there is no exact definition as of yet, most likely because the topic of self-harm is still being researched into. So the boundaries aren't clear, and definitions are all broad and depend on the person.
