Self harm is any action (or inaction) that deliberately results in physical harm to yourself. This could be typical, obvious things like cutting, burning, bruising, etc, but it could also include deliberately harmful eating habits, drug or alcohol misuse, even purposely making negative life choices for yourself. Self harm is a way to release unresolved emotional issues, a way to feel more alive or can be a way to punish yourself. Whatever the reason and whatever the method only you can really understand why you may do this, what you get out of it and find some more less harmful alternatives. It isn't easy, just admitting to yourself what you're doing sometimes can be a struggle. It can also be very addictive so stopping can be difficult, you need to be really ready to stop. Luckily 7 Cups is here if you need to talk in a safe, non judgemental environment, any time of the day or night.

For me, things that I can't control constitute self-harm. I self-harmed for the first time when I was feeling desperate about something a teacher said about me. I blamed myself for not being good enough and I felt so terrible and I wanted the feelings to stop, so I use physical pain to reduce mental pain.
If you feel the urge to self-harm, don't. Talk to someone, talk to me, or a friend. Who ever you want to. Cry, scream, it's all okay. Just don't ever start.

self harm is deliberately harming yourself by cutting or burning yourself. its typically not meant as a suicide attempt but an unhealthy way to cope with all the anger and frustration and emotional pain. By my personal experience i can tell that though it calms you down, but it definitely brings alot of guilt with it!!
