How do I keep myself from making new scars as my old scares are healing?

Sometimes when i feel the urge to self harm, i take a red pen and draw lines where i would usually hurt myself. you don't get the same pain as you would from self harm, but you can feel the pen against your skin and it leaves a red line so it gives you a sense of accomplishment. it has really helped me from stopping from hurting myself.

Try finding an alternative, such as drawing, playing an instrument, or even marking with red marker where you are tempted to self harm. Find a positive way to channel your emotions until the feeling has passed.

When you feel the compulsion to pick, try to take a moment and allow yourself to analyze the impulse to self-harm. What is the intention behind the feeling? What is it in reaction to? A lot of times, allowing yourself to sit in the "uncomfortable-ness" for a little while (albeit very hard) will cause the impulse to pass.

I've had personal experience with this. In my experience, I was able to discourage mysself from making new scars by drawing over the old ones with a red marker. It reminded me how new scars would look on my skin and helped me to overcome the need to self harm.

I look at pictures with cuts or even gifs. For me the blood is the exciting thing - not so much is pain but it is also. Most of the time it helps. If not I get a rubber band around my arm and pull it back.. that also hurts but doesn't leave scars.

Whenever you feel the urge to cut, then try to get occupied with something else xx You can for example doodle on paper, or on your skin where you feel the urge to cut x But don't use one who will hurt you x

sometimes getting your mind off it will help, do something you love doing or write down your angry even something just drawing on your arm or something but not cutting will make you feel better.

Just look at the scars that are healing and think that there's already some on that area, so why have more if they're only gonna hurt and make you uncomfortable? See the healing wounds as an example. Try to heal along with them, and don't think about getting more. The more you do, the more emotional and physical pain will be. It's very hard to stop all at once, so set yourself a goal. Not self harming for a certain time that you choose. And with every new goal, make the time more distanced. It worked for me and now, i don't cut anymore. Start small, with effort you'll end up big

Remember where your last ones came from and how you got them to become old, and adapt after that. Scars becoming old shows time has passed, and time usually does heal. But for it to heal, you need to change WITH time; making no changes won't make way for change. Getting help is one of those steps, which many people sadly don't even begin, hence the cycle of scars.
