How do I help my girlfriend that self harms?

Hi. It is really good to know that you are willing to help your girlfriend. Your girlfriend might be going trough a lot and it's commendable of you to be such a support. You can talk to your girlfriend and tell her about your willingness to help her. You can try to know what works for her when she has the tendency to self harm or is she seeking any professional help. You can also go through self help guides or any other informative resources on self harm and can suggest ways to her, if she is unaware about it. You can help her to keep a track on any of the steps that she is undertaking. Also, you being there for her and supporting her emotionally is a help in itself.

my personal opinion from experience would just be to comfort her. let her know that your a safe person that is here to help. let her know and make it clear that she can always come to you with problems or when she feels like she needs to self harm. make sure you dont make her feel bad about it. just comfort her and be there for her through it all. it will make her feel a lot more confortable when she talks about it with you and she will probable be able to come to you and treat you like her safe person after that. take care.

Don't push her in any way, let her know that you are there if she wants to talk but don't force her to talk to you if she doesn't want to. Make other options available ie other ways she can let out her emotions like stress balls, ice cubes, colouring in (with felt tips keep pencils and sharpeners away). If you know she is feeling down offer a cup of tea and a hug or something similar you know she finds comfort in and if she doesn't want it, respect her privacy, to an extent. If it is really bad seek professional help from a liscenced therapist or councillor
