I think it's important to be aware of the fact that you will have to walk through the actual pain of quitting self-harm. But that the support of those around you is really key. By letting people know that you just need support, whether it's going out for a coffee or a quick phone call, it can be what you need in that moment to keep from harming yourself.

They can try and make you happy, try and take your mind off the problem in hand. If you're going to hurt yourself, think of it as someone else. Are you really prepared to hurt them too?
Do something with them that makes you all happy so you can stay happy, I know how you feel I've been there. But the best thing to do, like i've said before, is surround yourself with people who love you and will take care of you.

I have a lot of experience with this subject. I can't say that I'm all the way through it either. You don't constantly want friends leaning over you, but maybe let them know that you need them to check in on you. Just to ask you how you are, and to ask you how you really are. You just need to know that they are there for you no matter what.

Be honest with them - what triggers your self harm? The more they know the more they can be honest about the support they can offer you. Are they comfortable with you calling or messaging one of them as a distraction for example? Can they help you find alternatives and hobbies?

Reaching out to friends or family can be a helpful step toward recovery. Recognize when you're having urges to self harm or when you're in an emotional state that could lead to self harm and instead reach out to your network. They can help distract through activities and lend an ear until the urge or emotion passes. Having them check in and make sure you're taking care of yourself- eating right, sleeping enough, taking a shower, getting outside, light exercise; can help prevent future episodes of self harm.
