It is always important to talk with each other. I don`t think its wrong to tell him what you feel. But do not expect him to change his feelings or behaviour towards him. Sometimes it`s better to let him go.

Focus on what you need at the moment for you to heal (for example, do you need this for closure?) but also make sure that if you do this you don't have any expectations as to his response as this could hurt you even further. Consider how you ended, your current relationship at the moment, and of course what you what to happen. After being together for so long it is expected that you will still have feelings that are going to be difficult to get over. Just make sure that whatever you do helps you feel better with yourself. Is what you need to move on and get out everything you are feeling?

I believe it is a really great thing to let the person you love know that you love them. It really sets you free. It can be hard if the other person doesn't feel the same about you, but you have to remember that they don't owe you anything. This entire process can be hard, but letting someone go by telling them how you feel, would set you free. In your case, it is your ex, but at the end of the day they are a person that you like. If you really want to do this, go for it. It will set you free.
