I do believe its really great. It makes you look at things with other perspectives. It helps you realize that there are no absolute truths, but rather different shades and that everyone has their truth, and that doesn't make it wrong or right, it just makes it different. And thats ok. Also it helps you to express what you feel in a more kind and assertive way without hurting others, and sometimes we can't communicate well because we have so much grief inside. And a therapist can really empathize with it to reduce it and that way get to a better communication.

Sometimes it is and sometimes it is not, like any other type of therapy it depends on the therapist and the people who come for help.

It's hard to answer a clear YES or NO, because it really depends on the therapist, and how your family dynamic responds to it. I have been to family therapy and it was helpful when we individually saw it as a positive space for understanding, reflection, and change. When people are able to accept hearing hard truths and criticism (that may not always be expressed constructively), it may seem beneficial and like change is possible. However, when people become defensive and tend to dismiss others or let their ego charge their relationships, it can be really tricky to see benefit in family therapy. Wish you all the best here!
