I get panic attacks at random moments because something outside of my conscious thoughts can trigger me.

You are triggered by some outside event, causing your flight or flight mechanism to come into play. Your thoughts start racing and your ability to gauge the true severity of the situation becomes compromised. You stop breathing normally. Your thoughts start looping and you become terrified of what is happening. This can be caused by subconscious fears, phobias, or post traumatic stress disorder. If you have been traumatized and it has not been addressed, a panic attack can be triggered by random events, like a car backfiring, or a sales person looking like someone who abused you in the past.

Panic attacks aren't your fault at all! Remember that! Try to know what your "triggers" are. For example, noise triggers me to the point where I freak out. So when I am in a loud place, I try to make sure that I come prepared! With a buddy, someone/something of comfort. and such. When I know that I am getting a panic attack, I try to calm it down with breathing things like the 4-4-4 (breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, let out for 4 seconds) or listen to music. As to why they happen at random times, that's a person to person basis, and it can happen for many reasons, it just depends on you and your triggers! Well the nature of a panic attack is for them to be random, and you get panic attacks at random times because they work off triggers. Anything in your environment, no matter how small, a smell, taste, song, note or pitch can send you into a panic attack. It's not possible to control all this stimuli and much of it is random around you, so thats why it appears random. It's actually systematic and if you can pinpoint what triggers you it will help the randomness to be less and to have a better grasp on things. however it's best to try to cope with a panic attack and learn to ride it out than to worry about the various tiny triggers that could be anything. However identifying major triggers is helpful.

Your past can usually have a huge impact on your life in this respect. It can also be something to do with your present or even your future such as; the fear of succeeding not even not succeeding. Think back to your last panic attack and try to think what triggered it. Was it something that reminded you of the past? Was it something that reminded you of your current problems? Or was it something that you're afraid might happen soon?
