Having self control over your mental emotions in a physical altitude can be quite stressful at first, but here is a plausible solution to this very normal but scary situation.
Now, before I proceed, this is from my personal experience and should NOT be taken as legitimate advice, please use this method as more of a guide.
The best thing to remember, is that its absolutely okay to feel scared, its okay to get anxious, its okay to have these feelings. And that you can easily and slowly ease yourself out of this situation by remaining comfortable, calm and collective. Try to distract your thoughts to something you enjoy, like continuing with that art piece you were working on, or maybe talking to us on 7 cups, and talking to a trustworthy friend or relative about how you feel.
Remember, you don't have to be silent about your suffering. Please say something or contact a professional if you feel you are mentally incapable of controlling your physical reactions to mental, emotional and psychological triggers.

Focus on what is going on in front of you, focus on one object in front of you. What color is it? What does it feel like? Just by centering yourself through the act of mindfulness you can begin to start breathing and feeling calm.

That is very tough to do. When I feel the need to do just that I often close my eyes and take in a deep breath, and then let it out.

Close your eyes, count to 10 breathing in and out slowly. Repeat as needed any time any place! This has helped me for a while.

This is a very difficult thing to do when you get thrown into that state where you just want to act/react and not care about the rest. Though reminding yourself then is probably the most important thing you can do.
There are many ways in which you can remind yourself, both mentally and physically. But it's important that you find a way that works specifically for you. However, here are a few suggestions if you want to give them a read:
Mentally:
- Remind yourself why you need to do it, or what your goal is.
- Focusing on what is happening and try to discern truth from lie.
- Think of something that comforts you
Physically:
- Step away and get some perspective
- Voice that you're overwhelmed (whether to yourself out loud or to someone/something)
- Write something on your phone (or a journal on you) that you can read when you start to slip
- Message someone you trust and who understand
Hope some of these helped or gave you an idea of what could work for you specifically! :)
