What I do is place one hand on my chest, the other on my stomach and focus on my hands and when they move while i'm breathing. It seems to calm me down.

know that you are stressed or anxious and remember that life gets better if you just breathe and then you can think with a clear mind

Well what you can do is a set an alarm on your smart phone and tell yourself that you are going to set some time aside for yourself and to practice how to breathe. There is nothing easy then taking that time to listening to yourself breathe. I am a martial artist and my master always told me that you have to breathe to live and that every breath we take for ourselves must be for ourselves in the sense that we need to listen to our bodies. Remain calm comes through when you figure out that art of breathing. I have a hard time with this at times but I do take that time for myself and I do just that, I sit and listening to the things around and the first things I notice is my breathing and how it is making me feel. Always come back to the center of your spirit.

Use different exercises when you are in the situation. Some use singing, other uses yoga and breath controlling methods. If you about to get worked up take a walk and calm your head and even if you don't feel like it, do it anyway! Make intervals were you work and relax!

You may have seen this on television at one point or another where a person holds a paper bag over their mouth and breathes into it. This technique is actually used to help one physically see that they are breathing deeply (because when you're panicking, your breathing actually becomes more shallow). Breathing into the bag and forcing it to fully expand, like a balloon, will indicate that you are breathing deeply. So, the way one might "remember" to breathe is to simply think about HOW they are breathing -- is it quick and shallow? or long and deep?

When anxiety is triggered, try throwing on some headphones and listening to your favorite song. Taking your dog on a walk. Dancing vigorously in your back yard. Just keep your mind focused on movement, breathing, or rhythm.

What works for me personally is mixing the idea of concentrating on my breathing with something physical. For example, if you have maybe something with a different texture that you are around often (like a hat or a bag), allow yourself to start touching and feeling that material when you are feeling worked up. Soon, when you feel that way again, and you touch that material, you will be reminded of your breathing. Hope this helps!
