Humans are fundamentally a social animal, we can suffer severe issues in mental growth and development if we do not communicate and seek comfort in others, it is hardwired into our brains to be this way. So by extension sharing our feelings can help achieve these feelings of comfort from others assuming they are an emphatic listener.

Even just voicing or speaking our feelings helps us release the thoughts and emotions from us. It can give us perspective, hear how it really sounds (not just in our heads), and helps us take control over our feelings.
If it is sharing feelings about a situation or a person, it is important to share so that we can communicate with others and develop an understanding of where each of us is at. People cannot know what you are thinking or feeling unless you share them. In doing so, you break down tension and allow for conversation to flow.

Because you cannot and should not keep anything bottled up, it’s against the human nature. It’s toxic to bottle your emotions so by sharing your emotions, you’re opening up your bottle and pouring your feelings which is healthy

Sharing feelings with another trusted person means we are no longer living in secrecy and it gives permission to that person to be supportive in a time that we might otherwise not know how to ask.

Talking about your feelings, hard as it may be, helps to lighten the load a little. Keeping things bottled up only works until it doesn't. Eventually, those feelings build up and come out, whether we like it or not. Speaking from personal experience, the longer you hold things in, the heavier the weight feels. Talking about how we feel may not solve our problem, but it allows us to gain perspective and look at things in a different light so that we can better understand ourselves. Sharing our feelings and connecting with people help us feel less alone.
