Feeling sad for no apparent reason in the world CAN be a sign of depression, although other factors must also be considered. You could just be having a down day. The weather, your amount of sleep, and your physical health can also attribute to feeling sad. If it's cold outside, maybe turning on some bright lights and happy music would help life your spirits. If you haven't been sleeping enough, maybe you should try to get some extra sleep in. I am sure this is not an all inclusive list of things that could be causing you to be unhappy today, but it's a pretty good start. Unless it becomes a part of your regular routine, I would just chalk it up as a down day, but if it continues, please seek a doctor, as depression is not something to play with

Feeling down from time to time is a normal part of life, but when emotions such as hopelessness and despair take hold and just won't go away, you may have depression. Depression makes it tough to function and enjoy life like you once did. Just getting through the day can be overwhelming. But no matter how hopeless you feel, you can get better. Learning about depression—and the many things you can do to help yourself—is the first step to overcoming the problem.

Sometimes, I feel sad because that is the feeling tone that arises within my body & mind. When I am feeling sad, I recognise that it is a natural emotional state. I extend compassion to myself, and remind myself that "It is ok to feel exactly how I am feeling, no matter what it is."

This one hits home for me. I personally don't believe people feel sad for no reason, even if you don't know it, there's something making you feel sad. It could be anything really. In short, it's perfectly normal and okay to feel sad for no reason, well, at least no reason you can find. Just don't let it get to you, everyone has their fair share of bad days and sadness, it's perfectly normal!

It's how the brain works. We just force ourselves to be sad in order to feel something. It's just how the brain is.

Perhaps something sad has happened, but you don't associate your sadness with the event. However, it could also be the sign of depression, in which case you should speak to your primary care provider.

You dont always need a reason to be sad. Sometimes, nothing at all can be upsetting, the pure obsolescence of the world is an unsettling thing. And sometimes, we just lie down and cry because we need to. It's okay. Just know that being sad isn't wrong, it's good for you to feel, to cry. If it never rained, nothing would ever grow. Just remember that rainy days are always followed by sunny ones.
