Why do I daydream about how my family would react if I were in an accident and needing to be in the hospital?

I do this myself. I think it's because we secretly want to know who would worry about us and rush to our bedside. Some kind of reassurance that we have people in our lives that we have impacted in some way that they'd worry about us if something happened to us. It's not necessarily a cry for attention, but it feels like an underlying need to know who actually cares.

I do this too! I think it's normal to want attention or to know that the people in your life care about you, and that this is a scenario that shows that without actively seeking attention.

I have experienced this. It is a natural thought process. You know how you would feel or react if one of your family members were in hospital. It's normal to wonder how they would react if you were. However if this is a constant thought or you are feeling the need to put yourself in danger to find out the answer, then you need help immediately. I used to think my family didn't care about me. A number of times I did end up in hospital and they were so worried and upset. Try not to think that your family wouldn't care if you were in hospital, try not to even think about that. You're not and they are happy with that.

Usually feelings and thoughts like this arise because we feel we are not an important part of anybody's life. Being thinking something as dramatic as this, it is usually linked to wanting to feel like we are loved and cherished and in these circumstances everybody would pay a lot of attention to us and make us feel this way.

Because their hypothetical reaction pleases you. It satisfies something that can only be brought out by a situation as tough as that one.

To see what their reaction would be. I don't know you or your family, obviously but in theory, it could be along the lines of if your family don't show you a lot of appreciation and you might be wanting to get them to appreciate you more by realising that if they lost you through an accident, that they wouldn't have been able to tell you how much that they care.

Sometimes it may just be out of curiosity that you imagine scenarios that may never happen. That or you feel like you're less than important to them, which would be untrue, and imagine how they would react. However, while the scenario could happen you may not know how they'll react. Chances are they'll be very upset and depressed about this but it's all up to how you imagine it. They do care about you and would be upset.

Hoping for a positive Reaction, wishing it was given on an everyday basis, feeling like the only way to get what you crave from our family is being injured to the point of hospitalization

Sometimes thoughts are just thoughts, they come and go and isn't something to be taken seriously. If you are concerned, ask yourself if there is anything about your relationship with your family that concerns you in any way, if your answer is "no, not really" then this is just another daydream :)
