It could depend on your environmental situation, such as work, school or family life. Or it could be due to hormones and biological issues. You also have to take into account whether you enjoy what you do everyday. Even if you don't enjoy school or work, find something that you can take up in your spare time that can work as an escape for you, to take you to a place where you can feel calm and happy, whether that is listening to music, drawing, playing an instrument, cooking, baking, or even just going outside and playing some sports; it really is up to you. Being emotional is in no way a bad thing. As humans we need to be emotional to be able to express ourselves. And remember, being "emotional" doesn't always have to be negative. Emotions are vast, and all of them are good.

There's nothing wrong with being emotional. If you think you're being overly emotional or too emotional, then thing about what's been going on in your life lately. Are you stressed? Do you have an important date/event/commitment coming up? Take inventory and see what you come up with. If you find that there's nothing going on to cause you to be super emotional, then try to calm yourself. Meditate, take deep breaths, exercise, do yoga. Remember that everything is going to be okay.

Contrary to popular belief, once I gave into my emotional tendencies, I found that being emotional wasn't as bad as I thought it was. We are human beings with fears and joys and dreams, it's natural for us to feel a little messy sometimes.
