It's best to start by what make someone a weak person, and the difference between weak and strong people: Some of the weakest people are the most immature because they don't deal with their emotions. They start to have a victim mentality and justify mistreating others because they've been through something difficult that hurt them. Those that face their emotions and process their pain and trauma learn to overcome what has hurt them. They grow and mature as people, which makes them stronger and wiser. Once they've overcome the past, they can let it go and treat people better because they know how hard life can be.

My mom likes to say that it doesn't matter how many times you get knocked down, only how many times you pick yourself up afterwards. Each time you experience something, you get a new set of tools to deal with problems that come your way. Some are more helpful at some times than others, but the more you pick yourself up and fill your toolbox with tools, the easier things generally get. Your shoulders get wider, and you learn where to ask for support as well. Sometimes we need help getting back up, and knowing when to ask for help is a huge marker of someone who is emotionally strong.

An emotionally strong person is someone who is able to deal with things intelligently, especially when faced with challenges in life. They are able to accept things as they are, and are not discouraged by the hardships of life. Someone who is emotionally strong can also easily adapt to change and is able to set boundaries when needed. They have strong values, a solid sense of identity, are self-confident and independent. They also don't waste their time trying to manipulate, control or be possessive of anyone. They live in the present, and aren't afraid of being alone, but know how to deal with others diplomatically.
