Emotions are like suggestions from our subconscious. They are there to guide us in directions we believe are important to us. They arise for all sorts of reasons. Selfish ones, selfless ones, protection, exploration, misunderstanding, realization, and many more. They are like a call to action, begging you toward a certain direction which somewhere inside you feel passionately about. We have so many because we, as people, are extremely complex. We have many different wants, needs, beliefs, thoughts, and goals which we develop over years of existing and exploring our lives. It's as if you're the main character in a story that has nearly infinite different paths and side stories to choose from at your finger tips. Your brain does the best it can to guide you down the ones you want the most and emotions are your rough guide. We at times feel them all at once because we are so multi-faceted. Many of us struggle to truly choose just one path and have conflicting interests with ourselves. It can feel overwhelming when bombarded with so much at once but we must not lose sight. Not many people are capable of looking at the mountain before them and making the climb with their eyes on the peak. We often find it more tangible to look at the first step before us and take it one at a time. I find it's best to take my jumbled ball of emotions and identify them one at a time. I try and determine where this emotion is coming from and why I'm feeling it. Once I've done that, I move to the next one. Sometimes there's no understandable reason which I can determine and that's ok. I allow it to exist. I see my emotions as children feeling certain ways and I try to treat them as such. If I'm feeling sad and confused, I'll embrace my sadness with love and compassion as one would a sad child. I try to explain to my confusion so we may reach an understanding. We, as people, are the adults. Our emotions are our children. Raise them as you think a child should be raised and they will grow along with you.

It's a part of being human. Sadness for when we need to alert people around us that we're facing a hard moment in time, happiness to let others know it's a good day and to smile, anger to show we're not happy with something. All in all, it's a part of being us.
