Physical sensations can help sometimes - washing your face, a shower, running your fingers gently over [safe] surfaces. Grounding Techniques [ http://www.bcbhr.org/Articles.aspx?7 ] can help as can Mindfulness exercises. Distractions may/may not work - but there are many GIGANTIC lists online of Distractions to choose from, you might select all the ones you might like, and then try a 2-3 to start with and work from there to narrow in on the type of things that work and the type that don't help.

Often the biggest reason for why we feel numb is when we have lost hope. Whether it is due a traumatic experience (which can range from a breakup to betrayal from friends to a death in the family) or the realization that life is pointless. But the truth is, we can always find that hope by finding a purpose in life. You want to feel alive? Just go outside and help someone (a stranger, anybody), comfort someone, do something nice for someone and you will realize that life isn't at all meaningless.
In words of John Green- "We shall never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken."

Just breathe. Long deep breaths. You can get through this. You should talk to your friends and family for support.

Somewhere, for couple of minutes, just stay still while laying on your back. Disconnect from everything. Close your phone and laptop and just stay there. It should be somewhere with a white or plain ceiling. You could also play a low relaxing song in the background.
The feeling numb might subside for several minutes. The mind will find its way to come back and fight throw this feeling. Staring into a blank not only helps you fight anxiety, but also allows your thinking to become more broadly. It that instance of not seeing anything in front of you might help find the answer you are looking for.
