It is important to know that it is alright to cry. Sometimes we need to let out our emotions. Once you have calmed down a little bit, I try to figure out why I am crying. To do this I do free journaling (write about whatever is on my mind). After that is done, I read my journal to figure out why I am crying. I think it's important to talk to others about your crying too. Often times, talking to others about what worries us or makes us cry helps a lot. That's what 7 Cups of Tea is here for. Find an active listener, a friend, or family member to talk to :-).

It's really difficult to stop yourself from crying. Sometimes you can stop yourself from crying by physically breathing in and out slowly. Crying is usually a physical response to heightened emotions. Breathing slowly and deeply through your nose and exhaling through your mouth will typically calm your body down. Another part of controlling your reaction to something emotional is the mental aspect. When you feel like you're going to cry, it will sometimes help to focus on something else completely like a math problem, music, or anything you enjoy.

I rarely try to stop myself from crying because it is better to let it out. However, if I cannot cry because of where I am, I will simply bite my lip, go talk to someone or just watch funny videos. :) I will also focus on breathing deeply, thinking of happy thoughts!Q

Sometimes it is very healthy to cry. But, perhaps, if your crying has gotten to a point where it is not helping and is very constant and somewhat problematic you might want to stop crying - at least in some times. When we go through emotional pain and never cry, that can be a very bad sign. Self-soothing, positive affirmations, journaling, drawing, challenging distorted thoughts, mindfulness, grounding techniques, and distractions may all be useful to you. We also have an ACT Guide here on the top bar of the page under "Guides". You may find it helpful to approach your emotional pain in a new way. Treatment of underlying psychological conditions may also be a critical part of helping yourself stop crying. Sometimes, in recovery or before recovery we go through a phase of intense crying, but we get through it by healing not the crying, but the pain or depression or other thing(s) that is causing our tears.

Crying is okay. Acknowledge this. Once you accept it, you realize that your tears are not something to be ashamed of. Now take deep breaths and exhale through your mouth, this will make you more relaxed. If you still find yourself crying, try counting the breaths you take or maybe playing some sort of game to distract you a little bit. Hope this helps :)

... O.o ... I'm not sure you can stop yourself from crying in general. Crying is a perfectly healthy human response to a variety of emotions and it can be very healing to simply let it out when need be.

It will stop when you are already at ease. It will stop if you'll force to stop it. However, it's okay to cry until you have it in full. But don't be too much consumed on the reason/s why you cry. It will pass.

The easiest things to do can be to think of something that makes you happy. Or you can do something that you know will distract you from whatever you don't want to think about.
