Taking some time out and focusing on yourself could be very useful. For example, doing something like meditation, listening to music or cooking can help relieve stress and appreciate the positive things that you might overlook or not see due to negative thinking. Talking to someone you trust or maybe to a volunteer like on 7cups can help too. Sometimes journaling and putting your thoughts and feelings onto paper can help you understand your thoughts and also prevent negative thinking in the future if you can spot any common causes of it.We all at some point probably think negatively, but it’s all about finding out what helps you cope and trying to (if applicable) stop the thinking at the source- I.e- cutting off negative friends or trying to do school work when it’s set to avoid stress and cramming later.

A good way is to avoid comparing yourself with others, since we tend to only look at their results and overview all the challenges they faced to get there, therefore making us think they are better than us.
Instead, focus on the good things you have done so far or on things you could do in the future. Set small, realistic goals that you can accomplish, and as you reach them, you will feel better about yourself.
This goals can be related to anything you want, maybe become a better friend a message someone, or be a better student and turn in all your homework on time this month! It can be any aspect that you wish to improve ! Best of luck!

Pause a moment. If you are feeling stressed, anxious, or stuck in negative thinking patterns, PAUSE. sit back and breathe. Ask yourself if the thought is realistic. Actively challenge the thought and look for alternative explanations. Recognize if your thought is actually a result of a cognitive distortion, such as catastrophizing. Consider what you'd tell a friend having the same thought. Just think about a time when you thought something bad was gonna happen but turns out something good happened. Be hopeful and patient. Hopefully everything will be good for you. With good thoughts come good things indeed and eventually.

I try to find positives in whatever I am thinking about. There is always something. Training your brain to think on the positive side can really help. When you think a negative thought, try to come up with five positive thoughts. It can take some time and commitment, but it is completely worth it. You could also try finding healthy ways to distract yourself from or cope with negative thoughts. For example, reading a book, getting some exercise, or hanging out with friends. If you feel yourself getting caught up in negative thinking, try a mindfulness exercise using your five senses. This can bring you out from inside your head and help you.

There's a vey popular phenomenon you may want to look into. It's called the Law of Attraction. Basically, the way this goes is like this. "What you think about, you bring about." Learning this was absolutely the most significant turning point in my life.
You see, when you think negative thoughts, worry or are fearful of something, you attract more of those very things. The reality is.... thoughts become things.
Yes, yes, of course. It's hard to just stop thinking negative thoughts. Here's the simplest and fastest way to enjoy the benefits of this Law of Attraction. Try it for one day. All you need to do is be grateful for as many things as possible. Just be grateful for everything and everybody. Every little thing you own. Every friend you have or had. And especially for everyone who has every loved you.
This will change your thought pattern. And suddenly all those good and great things that you were grateful for, will attract more of the same. More good things. More great people. Really! It works! Try it!

Negative thinking can become a persistent unconscious habit that makes people feel anxious and moody. Someways to prevent is to make gratitude lists daily of things that make you happy and smile. Gratitude lists make people become aware of the small good things that happen daily. When thinking of happy things they make the negative things get smaller. It also forces us to exercise some optimism. A person can also try to do more things that bring joy to them to reduce negative thoughts. Some might sit out in the sun, or drink a cup of tea, or maybe phone a friend. Reducing negative thoughts requires adding more happiness and gratitiude.

Mindfulness really helps to prevent negative thinking. Putting yourself into a calm state of mind and taking deep breaths is a great way to be present and stay positive. one thing that works great is to name 5 things you see, smell, taste, hear, and feel. Recognizing these outside factors can help a person feel more relaxed, calm, and therefore more positive. It is also very helpful to write out 3 things that you liked about your day, because it is easy to forget the positive things when the negative things feel so strong. Follow these few tricks and I really hope it makes you feel more positive!

I try to think about all the good things that are in life, like food, friends, lovers, etc! If you think Of the good in life, you start to see the world differently. If I could tell you all anything, I would tell you how important it is to see the good things, because they can help you with so much in the future. You also should remember you are loved, you have friends, and we will always be with you, even if you can’t see us or we aren’t there. We are here for you. You are special.

I think that recognizing the negative thoughts is the first way to stop it because it means you are being aware of what you are thinking. Next, you can stop yourself and purposely think of something positive to counteract that negative thought so that you can begin to tratin your brain to go a different way. Another thing to do is to think of something or write something down taht direclty contradicts the negative thoughts you are having so that your brain realizes that is not okay and we do not want to think that way. Additionally, talking to yourself outloud can also help.

I appreciate this question. I think on some level we have all wondered this. As humans we have so many thoughts that float through our mind and some, we tend to attach ourselves more to than others. I know for myself I struggle with attaching myself to negative thoughts that cause me to go into a spiral of catastrophizing meaning, I assume the worst possible outcome in any given situation. For myself I have found that I can't control my thoughts, but I can control how I react to them. Some different ways of responding to negative thoughts could be to replace it with what you would rather believe. You could follow the negative thought and challenge it to explore how likely the negative thought is to come true. You could notice how the thought makes you feel and explore why it is causing you to feel that way as well as identifying what would help you cope with the feeling. Bottom line it is normal to struggle with this and I encourage you to use whatever method you find helpful to manage these thoughts.
