It can be difficult to express yourself when you are wrapped up in emotion, and can't think straight. Often, it helps to let some time pass so you can digest your feelings and then things become clearer. Being calm makes communication with someone else easier and more effective. You can try writing down what you are feeling which can help you gain perspective on your current challenge.

Try to find the root of those feelings. Finding the reason why you feel like that will help a lot, surprisingly, to tackle the issue. Try to remember when was the time you started experiencing those feelings and try to associate an event in your life with these feelings. Then, proceed to analyze the feelings and the reason why you feel that way. You might stumble upon solutions as analyze the situation in your head. Talking to someone else about it also helps.

For feelings you can't find words to express, it's best to just relate them to other feelings that people are familiar with. Sometimes you're more than happy or more than depressed, but to just allow yourself to feel them is, at times, just the right healing that you need.

Words are simply one medium to express one's feelings. As long as you understand your feelings, you can create ways to express them. Examples would be through music, art, painting, or even basic writing. This will help you identify exactly how you are feeling e.g. apathetic, indifferent, unhappy, joyful, etc.

Listen to music! Usually it helps me discover the words I want to say. Music speaks volumes for me--especially when I'm really upset! Some of the lyrics really speak how I feel about a situation and usually the feelings become words; it all pours out.

Sometimes when we dont know how to express ourselves its often because we have a lot built up and are at a frantic point and cant really organize our thoughts. The best thing I've found to do is to write it all down; everything youre feeling. Reread it a few times, organize it the way you feel best, and then the words will come to you naturally. Once I've organized my thoughts and feelings I feel more confident and satisfied with how I can express myself.
