You put them into actions, which are usually hobbies or work. Those feelings that can't be expressed are just looking for a way out. They give a sort of expendable energy, you can also say that those emotions can fuel or motivate a person in what he/she do.

Creativity is always an outlet to deal with such feelings. Expressing them through music, paint or drawing is a really good way to picture them better in your mind and to understand them better in order to work on them later on.

Write down whatever comes to mind. Then keep writing. Allow your mind to express its thoughts even if at first they don't seem to make sense. Eventually, they will. If it is a situation that is overwhelming you, try writing the situation out in third person like fictional characters. Sometimes, it helps to give yourself another perspective.

A mindmap, or you could browse the thesaurus to find words to describe it. Use Art, music or any other form of communication. Don't limit yourself with simply words.
