The difference is quite simple really but also kind of sad. Being isolated means that there are no actual people around you can communicate with. On the other hand, loneliness can occur even while you're among a huge crowd full of relatives, friends, lovers... It's the feeling you get when you realise no one really "gets" you. No one understands you. It's when you feel there is no one in the world whom you can share your most sacred thoughts with. Loneliness is when your soul is left without its equal.

Isolation is where you or some other person/group are the cause of your loneliness. As for loneliness itself, it doesn't always need a reason for existing. Sometimes, people just feel lonely.

Being isolated is when you are remote from other people, separate from them and there is some psychological of physical barrier/reason for it. So you live in a remote area and have no transport, or you are the only gay man you know, in both instances you are isolated. Loneliness is a bit different it can be a lack of human connections in your life but necessarily that you are alone. So you can be in a classroom full of others, people are physically there but you have no connection with them making you lonely. You can also be isolated and lonely.
