What is the difference between isolation and loneliness?

I believe isolation to be a feeling in which you remove yourself from something, be it a situation or interaction with someone; in some cases it can also assume a negative connotation in which someone purposefully excludes you from a situation or interaction. Then we have loneliness, an emotion that can be experienced as a direct consequence of being isolated or simply a state in which you feel predominantly sad and dejected; this usually occurs when you feel like nothing is going your way or when you feel unsupported and have no one to rely on and confide in.

Isolation and loneliness are two different situations and should be dealt with accordingly. Isolated is a situation when you are deliberately cut off from some group members or society or peer group. Loneliness is more of a state of the mind of a person who is actually spending on his own despite having family and friends around.

For me, I consider isolation to be something that someone actively does as a physical thing, whereas loneliness is more of a feeling. So this is how I'd define it but obviously, other people may think differently. -Isolation: people often become isolated to try and shield themselves from everything around them. They may purposely stay in a room by themselves or not speak to anyone. They don't necessarily have to feel one way or another. An isolated person may be fine emotionally about being isolated, or they may feel emotions like loneliness. -Loneliness: an emotional feeling that basically feels horrible. Unlike isolation, where you aren't really isolated so much when you're around people, loneliness can be a feeling that happens even when you're around people - because it's an emotion.

The difference between Isolation and Loneliness could simply be defined as: Isolation: Being removed from society and people, either by choice or by force. Loneliness: Being surrounded by people who love you and care for you but still feeling that no-one understands you or that you are absolutely alone. Again, it can differ from person to person what their definitions of both are.
