Isolation is the physical absence of people, loneliness is the emotion associated with missing people or an emotional connection with people. You can be surrounded by people and feel lonely, and be isolated without feeling lonely.

Isolation sounds physical where as loneliness sounds emotional. A person can be isolated and not feel lonely, just as a person can be surrounded by people but still feel lonely.

Loneliness is similar but not exactly the same thing. You can feel lonely in a group of people too, it doesn't happen only when you're alone.
