Missing an ex will be hard, and it varies for everyone. Some people move on in different ways. There is no “right way†to go about it. However, the healthiest way is to remain hopeful and understanding. You survived just fine before them, and you’ll be just fine afterward. You have your whole life to find someone who makes you feel amazing and loved. I won’t tell you it’ll be done by next week, or next month, etc. I’m still not over my ex-boyfriend, but I know it’s in the past and I’ve progressed wonderfully without them. Take care of yourself, surround yourself with those who truly love you, care for your well-being. Do things that make you truly happy, feeling free, powerful and whole. I won’t tell you it’ll be easy, because it won’t. You are human, and you will experience moments where you won’t feel like getting out of bed, or you’ll feel like the reason for you two splitting was because of you and a bunch of other emotions. They will pass, and you just have to take it one day at a time. In no time, you’ll look back and maybe chuckle a bit when you realize you’ve stopped making a fuss about them because you’ve finally moved on from them. I wish you the best of luck. Just know, you’re not alone and you’re an amazing person - with or without them in your life.

In my opinion a good way would be to talk to friends or family. Go out with them before it's time to sleep so you could think how awesome the day was. If that doesn't work I suggest you listen to music that gets you pumped up. If music doesn't help you out I strongly suggest coming here to 7cups and help out people who have the same problem. That was you and the other person can talk about your feelings and give each other advice

Listen to soothing music or sound e.g. waves/forest/rain/wind. Keep your bedroom dark is usually best. But you can also use fairy lights to set a pleasant mood. The general idea is to set a comfortable tone and mood in your bedroom so you can fall asleep easier.

It’s dofficult to try and sleep when your mind is preoccupied missing your ex. When I was in this position, I used to try and read to take my mind off things and on occasion, I would go into a cleaning frenzy until I wore myself out so much that I could sleep. It does take time but it does get easier, so if anyone if suffering from a lack of sleep, it won’t last forever. Keep yourself busy or do something which makes you happy. The likelihood is ... they’re the ones missing out!

In my experience, trying to distract myself from thoughts such as my ex helps a lot. Finding ways to do this that work for you can be tricky, however. Personally, reading a good book often helps, listening to some upbeat music (nothing that reminds you of them) or maybe meditating. Meditation is a great way to clear your mind of all though you don't want and we leave you feeling much calmer and rested afterwards, you might even fall asleep during the meditation! Try to refrain from going on your phone before bed however, as this generally doesn't bode well with trying to sleep generally. Also, attempt not to reminisce over pictures or search their Instagram. It can be tempting, but it won't help! Remember, your mind has a way of removing the bad memories from the relationship, so if you can't clear your mind of these thoughts, try to balance the good memories of your ex with the bad ones, to ensure that your not idolizing the relationship.

Going through a break up is no easy task. I'm not sure how long you have separated but sometimes you have to allow yourself to go through the grieving process in order to heal. The best thing I have found when dealing with a break up is self care. This can consist of being distracting yourself with a hobby and doing something you love (ie. meditation, journaling and painting). You can also refer to growth path here on 7 cup where you would find exercises to help you cope with your situation. In addition to selfcare you can also get involve with activities to take your mind off the situation.
