If you're in school, many have LGBTQ+ student organizations you can join. Those can help you both give and receive support, as well as make friends with other LGBTQ+ people. Outside of school, the Internet may be your best bet. Tumblr is a great way to meet others and receive support, with a plethora of advice blogs and meet-ups. There are also Facebook groups and other websites designed to help with just this sort of thing, whether by offering online support, ways to meet up with others in person, or both. And of course you are always welcome and supported here on 7 Cups of Tea!

Chances are that many of your friends are also LGBTQ, but it is very daunting telling people. Your friends also don't need to be LGBTQ to be supportive...

There are many local LGBT communities that host social meetings, support groups, cultural events... Probably there's one near you that you can go to. It's a very inclusive and supportive environment, I've always found that they can make people truly feel welcomed and loved and make a difference for them. And with time, I'm sure you'll find inclusive and supportive friends, both LGBT and not!

While 7 Cups may provide a small amount of support for you, the best things to do is search out for people that are like you. The Trevor Project is a phenomenal source for LGBTQ teens, and they also have a social networking site, TrevorSpace. Also, if you are trans seeking out exclusively other trans friends, check out the forums on transkidpurplerainbow.com.

1) Look for LGBTQ support communities in your area or 2) Look online. This is probably best as you can find support online no matter where you are.

There are always places online where you'll find others within the LGBTQ+ community. Chat rooms, facebook groups, twitter pages, tumblr blogs, and youtube are all great places where you can get in contact with people in the community.
If there are any LGBTQ+ groups in your area, going to a group or program can help you find friends in the community and can provide a safe place for you to be yourself and meet new people.

I would recommend support groups or LGBT clubs at school or in your area. If you live near a city or town, you can usually find good resources. You can look to support online. You can find support in a trusted adult, someone who is more accepting than your parents. Even if your friends aren't LGBT, I am sure that you can find among your friends support. I know it's scary and it can feel isolating, but remember that you are never alone in this.

Hello there! Support can be found all around you. It doesn't matter if your friends are LGBTQ+, they will still be happy to support you. I'd recommend researching LGBTQ+ support groups in your area if you're looking for local support. A therapist or school psychologist can also be a great source of support. However, you are also always welcome here on 7 Cups. All listeners are supportive of LGBTQ+ people and are happy to talk to you and help you with whatever you need. There are also LGBTQ+ support sessions in group chat rooms if that's the kind of support you're looking for! :)

It's a good thing you're here! I have found that the internet, specifically safe communities on the internet like 7 Cups, are so incredibly helpful in finding community where I can't have it in person. You are not alone. There are so many LGBTQ+ folks who don't have supportive people among their family or friends. It's a sad but real situation. But the bright side is that that means there are lots of people in communities like these to connect with! I would recommend spending some time on the LGBTQ+ subcommunity and making some friends there! You've got this!

i, and i assume many other LGBTQ+ people, found themselves online. there are many spaces across the internet way open for LGBT peer support and general chats! and MILLIONS of supportive people! i found my identity on a social media website that hosts blogs. i found out that there's more to identity than i knew with help to their posts and words. it was later that i made friends with LGTBQ+ people in real life, and some of my LGBT online friends have been around for like 6 years now! unfortunately, this is how it happens for a lot of people - that their parents aren't supportive - but there are many many people out there waiting to help you out and help you feel the sense of safety you deserve.
