I knew that I was transgender because I didn't associate with my birth gender. I didn't understand what it felt like to be that gender. Instead, I felt like I didn't know what gender feels like at all - I'm agender. I simply had to examine my feelings regarding gender.

When you feel as though you are not your gender, and you identify as the other sex. You don't really have to outwardly look like the opposite sex, as long as you feel you are, then you are.

cannot speak from personal experience but if you deeply feel inside that you aren't the "right" gender and associate more with your opposite gender then perhaps you should talk to someone you trust whom has an openmind about how you feel and take it from there.

you feel like your body just does not match your mind. You picture yourself only as the opposite gender of what your biological one is. You may feel like something went wrong and you have been given the wrong genitalia and hormones etc.

No one can tell you for sure, but there are some questions you can ask yourself to help with questioning. - If I could press a button tomorrow and be male/female (as applicable) would I? - Would I feel more comfortable being perceived as male/female (as applicable) - When you think about the future, do you see yourself comfortable living every day as that gender? You could try small, safe, steps which will help you to know. A different haircut, changing the way you dress, all these things and you comfort levels can help you to understand your own feelings about your gender and the way you express it.
