Different generations have very different views about mental health and were often brought up in a world where it was a taboo subject. Because of their upbringing, they often don't understand what mental health is, how it can affect our lives and what can be done to help and treat the issues. Many parents were also silenced about their own struggles and never taken seriously when they tried to speak up so they don't have the skills needed to deal with difficult conversations and instead try to sweep it under the carpet. Parents also struggle with their own mental health problems and can be guilty of thinking their own struggles are more valid than others even though that isn't true. So whilst it might seem like your mum doesn't care, she probably does care but just doesn't know how to show it, what to say or how to deal with it. Take care!

I’m feeling suicidal, but I have no one to talk to. I can’t call any hotlines or anything like that because of my severe social phobia and there doesn’t seem to be anywhere I can chat to someone. Where can I get some help and feel safe doing this?
