Yes! If you live in the United States all registered therapists have to keep your information confidential. Additionally, the process to become a therapist is strenuous and it takes years of work so you can guarantee that whoever your therapist is they are passionate about what they do! One important thing to consider is that therapists are mandated reporters so that means if they find you in danger or a danger to others(physically or psychologically) and it is beyond their authority to help you with these supposed things you could be at risk of being reported to the authorities. This does not mean that you shouldn't be honest with therapists though! Therapists have your well-being in mind and won't have you be locked in a cage in some insane facility they will do whatever they find best to help with the given situation in the kindest way possible. I hope this helped.
Why is it so hard to talk about mental illness?

I’m feeling suicidal, but I have no one to talk to. I can’t call any hotlines or anything like that because of my severe social phobia and there doesn’t seem to be anywhere I can chat to someone. Where can I get some help and feel safe doing this?
