How do I know that I deserve a therapist?

When it comes to therapy, it's not about "deserving": getting support is everyone's right, and rights are not something you earn. Everyone is allowed to get support when they're experiencing something distressing. If you feel like you need it, don't let whatever makes you feel like you're not "deserving" stop you. Sometimes it's guilt, sometimes we judge ourselves and we think we don't deserve help, but every single human being deserves support regardless if who they are and what they've done in their life.

In my opinion, everybody deserves a therapist. In fact, I'd go so far as to say everybody should try therapy- it's a great way to learn about yourself and improve your mental health. You may feel that you do not deserve a therapist, but reaching out to a therapist and getting the help that you need may help you feel more confident in yourself and your own self worth. They might be able to help you work through your feelings and perhaps make you more sure of yourself and your own worth. Therapy is completely non judgemental, so there isn't any perception of whether someone is 'worthy' of therapy or not. You are a human being with feelings and emotions that are valid and a therapist will hopefully help you feel that way too.

There doesn't need to be something "wrong with you" to go to therapy. Some people go for trauma or PTSD cases. Some people go because they have mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Some people go to help cope with stress or vent about stuff going on at school or work. Some go to help cope with bullying or trying to figure out how to stop being a bully. It depends on everyone's situation and it's not that people "deserve" a therapist...therapy is not meant only for people who have mental distresses. Therapy helps with many other things and if you need to seek therapy, then seek therapy. The therapist won't make fun of you for your reasoning.

I do not think that you need to deserve one; if you feel that you could use some help, then you could use some help. Also, if you need a therapist, it does not mean that something is wrong with you; what it means is that, like all humans, you want and need some compassion and advice. Personally, I went to a therapist because I felt I had a problem but I stayed even after I solved it (more or less). You deserve a therapist because you say so, and I hope that you will be able to find affordable or free help where you live.

I’m feeling suicidal, but I have no one to talk to. I can’t call any hotlines or anything like that because of my severe social phobia and there doesn’t seem to be anywhere I can chat to someone. Where can I get some help and feel safe doing this?
