Does anyone else try to save those they care about from their depression and other conditions?

I used to! In the past, a lot of people depended on me to be there to listen to their problems nearly 24/7. I was the emotional dumping ground for relationship drama, work struggles, financial stress, and that became a really big emotional burden. Now, I'm finally learning to distance myself and am taking steps to be there for my friends but set healthy boundaries. It can feel like a very heavy weight when people depend on you to be there for them, and it's ok to acknowledge you can't be what they need. Support your friends, but encourage them to get professional help, and take time for your own mental health too. It's ok to be selfish.

I do too sometimes, it can feel like such an obligation to help those people because you really care about them, but it also sometimes ends up weighing you down too. Only help other people if you feel like you can, because you don't want to bring yourself down as well. I'm currently having to deal with a friend right now that I don't feel like I can help all that well, so for now I'm just distancing myself from her, and will connect her to some resources, but she won't help herself, so all I can do is just do the best I can by being my best self, and showing her that other people really do care about her, but she also needs to take care of herself. To answer your question, yes, I totally understand what you mean, and sometimes you can't save those you love, so don't always push yourself to do so if they won't take your help. Good luck with your friend :)

I’m feeling suicidal, but I have no one to talk to. I can’t call any hotlines or anything like that because of my severe social phobia and there doesn’t seem to be anywhere I can chat to someone. Where can I get some help and feel safe doing this?
