What's it like to go No Contact with your entire family?

I'm in the process of trying to do this. My in-laws have left me in a state of severe emotional distress for the last five years. I have hardly slept that entire time and I'm exhausted. My husband is fully supportive of me making this choice, and I respect his decision to NOT cut his parents off (even though he said he would like to, he can't bring himself to. I would never push him to make either decision, it is his own choice to make).
Anyway, I have made the decision, and I'm going to ignore their very existence from this day on. But I don't know how to deal with this emotional distress that's been destroying my stability for five years now. I don't expect it will be magically cured by cutting them off, but I do hope it will help at least a bit.
So since I'm in the midst of this, perhaps I'm at a similar stage to the person who asked the original question. I'm following this closely to see the input from those who have gone no-contact a long time ago, because I really need to know how well they healed (or not).
