It's not really being selfish actually. How I see it whatever you're doing isn't wrong you're doing it for yourself and your partner too. Parents aren't going to be with us forever and before they leave we need to know where we stand without them. We can not stick by their sides for long, you need to take your first flight to learn to fly. She wont be angry with you for long, talk to her and tell her how you feel about the situation and try to make her understand and i know she will, good luck and congratulations on getting married!

I don't think that you are being selfish. You have made the choice to get married. It is quite common for parents to feel jealous when this happens or to be overly protective of their daughter. She might used different techniques to make you feel guilty about your decision. It is important that you adress this issue by talking to her directly. Tell her how her actions make you feel. Tell her that you are really moving out of state, whether or not she likes it or not because you want to tried this marriage thing. It is possible that she is denying it. Why else would she want you to get involved in a project that you will not be able to carry to the end? It sounds irrational of her.
