Religion is a personal belief system, and if your personal beliefs are not in line with the teachings of your family's religion, then you have the free agency to change your beliefs. Whilst this can be upsetting for some members of family to hear, particularly if they are strongly religious, it's important that your views are discussed.

You don't have to tell anything upfront. When they ask you that why aren't you practicing their religion anymore, then you can tell 'em the true reason, whatever it may be.

Just try your best to express your thoughts and reasons. It may not be an easy thing to do but they might be understanding if they can understand your reasoning behind it. Good luck! ♥

Be open and honest, tell them your hows and whys of this choice. Let them know you need to take your own path before you follow one set for you?

Be respectful. Sometimes there is no way to approach a subject that is sensitive. But regardless if you are positive and respectful about how each person feels then you are more likely to get good results. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and hopefully your parents can understand that.

Tell them that you don't feel comfortable practicing what they practice. Say that you would like to practice a different religion.

It will be hard but make sure you have some back up of why you want to leave. Explain to them why you don't want to practice it anymore

Try approaching them with your valid reasons and asking in support and understanding. Have them understand why you feel the way you do and the importance in it for you. Good luck.

I would imagine having this discussion would be very hard as its something they care about a lot but equally they care about you, I'm sure you also don't want to upset them and you care for them too. You may find it easier to put your thoughts on paper and leave it for them to read as it will give them time to think about what you've said, Writing your thoughts down will help you think through what you want to say to them.
