To clarify, when I feel low I want to talk about it and I have discovered that my family members don't like hearing about it and it makes them more stressed. The only answer I can find to my question is to stop talking to them but I'm finding this remarkably difficult - my mum has been my lifeline for so long, it is strange to not speak to her about how I'm feeling but I can't see another way, So I wondered if anyone has any tips or suggestions?

The truth is, stress is just a part of every-day life, and getting rid of it is basically impossible. I do not believe there are any healthy ways of getting rid of all stress. Not talking about your feelings or sharing your struggles to those close to you will end up worse in the end. For one, it may stress your family out because they may feel that you cannot open up to them. And for two, it's not healthy to hold it all in. Instead, maybe try finding a separate outlet. Don't stop sharing with your family, but maybe relieve some of the issues you're having in other ways.
