From experience, this is hard. Even if they accept it and love you, it can be hard to convince them that you don't need to hide your sexuality or be ashamed of it. I'm still working on it, it takes time. In the end you just need to prove her wrong by living your life as openly as possible and she will come round. If you want a chat about it feel free to get in touch.

Some people are just too stubborn and will not change their minds. You have to accept the fact that they are not going to change. As much as we want them to change some people just wont, or they will do it slowly.

I know it difficult. But, you are from the New Society that sees Being Gay differently. Your Mom is from a different generation. So, she needs get used to it. She needs to acclimatize. Help her acclimatize. Explain to her homosexuality, and how you cannot choose (your liking the same sex, and you, naturally, are sexually attracted to the same gender). More than anything, sit down with her, and answer her questions. Sit down, and have the uncomfortable conversation with her, so, you help her understand homosexuality better. Most probably she just does not know much about it (except from the stereotypes in movies and general conversation). Sit down with her, and ask her what about it makes her uncomfortable, and make her comfortable.

Changing someone's preconceived notions is never an easy task. Using rational thought often seems like the logical way to proceed, because who can argue with statistics, right? However, in these cases it's important to also appeal to people's emotions and try to frame your case from their perspective. Think about the core relatable experiences and emotions we share as humans regardless of our sexual identities and orientations. It may help to speak to those because they are relatable on a personal level. From that solid foundation you can branch out to talk more about the specifics of your perspective to help her/ others understand more about yourself.
Have a helpful insight? Don’t keep it to yourself.
Sharing helps others and its therapeutic for you.
