Exercise is important to me because it makes my body feel better and it helps me sleep, I don't exactly enjoy it at the time but as long as I can incorporate fun things like swimming it's really fun!

Exercise is a great way to burn off excess energy, stay physically fit, and (perhaps most importantly) stay emotionally fit!
It has been proven over and over again by both individual reports and large scientific studies that exercise is immensely beneficial in the improvement and maintenance of mental health. Short version: Exercise keeps you happy!
When we're sad, feeling down, or frustrated, physical exercise is a great way to take out those negative feelings and turn it in to something positive. If you can combine physical exercise with something structured, if you're in to that, it's a great overall benefit. Personally, I used to practice martial arts. Cardio, strength training, and discipline, all in one place!

You also have a stronger immune system, so experience fewer colds, flu, etc. And you feel empowered!

From a biological perspective, exercise helps inprove your heart strength and it prevents many cardiovascular diseases. But exercise can also improve your mental health, if you don't over-do it. By exercising, some people find that their self esteem increases along with their confidence levels and their general mood. I know science has found WAY more reasons, but these are the main ones that I'm aware of.
