Since i deal with this same issue myself i have found these tips helpful for me
1. Drinking 2 glasses of water when you feel hunger or just want to eat something, it will let you know if the hunger you feel is real or emotional..
2. Eat with complete concentration on your food without using any screens like tv mobile etc
3. Take small bites and enjoy every bite, bring your awareness to the texture, taste and the feeling you get when you eat your food.
4. Eat slowly and chew each bite 30 to 32 times
5. Leave eating as soon as you feel that you no longer feel that hunger stretch in your stomach anymore and save remaining food for the next time when youre hungry which in my case is after two to three hours.
In short just being aware of how you feel and what youre eating will help you avoid going back to food every time youre stressed and even if you do go to food for comfort you wont eat as much as you now do

Emotional eating is very difficult to stop. We learn at a very young age to take comfort in food. Therefore it is only normal to turn to food to cope with our emotion. Before you eat ask yourself what you are feeling. If you are hunger than eat, if you are feeling an emotion than find a postive outlet for this emotion (such as exercise, art, talking to someone, etc). Sometimes it can be hard to disguish between hunger and emotion. If you aren't sure what you are feeling wait 20mins. If you still want food then eat a healthy snack.

Try to pin point the reasons why you are eating, are you eating because things make you anxious, nervous, insecure, afraid, sad etc. Then deal with those thoughts, write them out and help resolve them, maybe you might need someone else to help or maybe not. Then once solved, you might not feel the need to eat or you at least have more control over your actions because of the rationale you came up with.

When you are feeling emotional, you have to find a way to distract yourself to prevent over eating. Do something fun, something you enjoy, you'll forget all about your problem for a bit and just enjoy your time.

Drinking water when you are emotional and want to eat all the time is the best way to stop. Water fills you up and so drenches your need for food. Sometimes though, eating emotionally is good for you.

Pause for a second and think about why you want to eat. What are you feeling that makes you eat? Then I would wait at least 10 minutes for my emotions to pass.
