Purging can help you feel in control of something whereas anxiety makes us feel out of control. Instead of purging, find something else that you can control. Try breathing in for eight counts, holding for eight counts, and breathing out for eight counts. This should help you calm yourself and resist the urge to purge.

Think about what makes you anxious, and then think about how purging will help cure that anxiety. This'll help you realise that purging won't help, and your brain won't tell you to do it

Try something that distracts you. Search for any activity you find pleassure in doing, and jump into it. Every person is different, but going for a walk, calling a friend, etc are some good ideas. Try to stay away fro your house until your desire of purging goes away, so that you're not tempted to do it.

Grounding techniques are great for anxiety. One that I like is finding a nearby object and thinking about what it is, what colors it is, what it's made of, what it may mean to you, its purpose, etc. Drinking camomile or peppermint tea will calm you down and lessen that nauseous feeling!

Find a way to distract yourself. Whether it be arts, music, sports, calling up a friend, or virtually anything to keep your mind from wandering there. Keep yourself busy. If you start feeling like you cannot do that try telling yourself "Wait 15 minutes." Usually by that time you have calmed down enough to rationally think. Seek professional help if it becomes a regular thing.
