In my opinion, any extreme diet could be considered an eating disorder if it begins to become out of the person's control. If they feel they cannot change their eating habits you can then conclude that it isn't just a temporary fad so they can lose a few pounds before summer. It is a mental disorder.

An extreme diet becomes an eating disorder when a person sees themselves in a way that in untrue. They see themselves as larger then they are. It also becomes an eating disorder when their mentality is saying "I'll be perfect if I lose __ lbs." or "I'll finally be happy when I'm skinny." Eating Disorders blind a person to the truth.

An extreme diet becomes an eating disorder when the person's thought begin to spiral out of control. Where the person may start thinking in very negative and extreme terms, such as if i eat any more i will be too fat to go to prom. They may compensate for overeating by forms of purging or other types of punishment, rather than recognizing it as a mistake. The point is when the eating disorder has taken over them, rather than the person taking over their eating.

When you feel like you can't enjoy food at all anymore or just give up restrictive eating ; when eating and dieting are the only thing you can think of; when you develop a body image disturbance; and/or when you start risking your health - In short: when it starts to seriously impair your life and you can't do anything about it

A diet becomes an eating disorder when you start cutting calories that are way less than what you should be eating. For instance, an average female should eat about 2000calories a day and exercise to burn 500calories a day. If you are eating 1000 calories a day and burning 500 calories or more exercising, that would mean you have about 500 or less calories in your body which is not healthy.

I feel when the person has lost control on the things they eat and that they feel incapable to eat if they where told to. Dieting is more of a lifestyle choice where Eating disorders are mental and can take away so many things from a person. A simple diet is where you are restraining from eating and try and make better life style choices where eating disorders is where you are literally to scared to eat due to "what if I gain?" And feel extremely guilty if you do eat. A person is born with the genes to develop eating disorders but a diet is simply just a lifestyle choice

In my view, an extreme diet starts becoming an eating disorder when it defines your life. When you reach the point where you constantly think about food or your wish to become skinny, your extreme diet has reached worrying proportions.
