I actively stop myself from thinking about something traumatizing by doing physical activity. I play lots of football (soccer), and while doing so I think of nothing else but the game. It's a form of meditation in itself. This technique can obviously only be used when doing physical activities is possible. Late at night for instance, when the ovals are closed, I usually listen to calming music that reminds me of happy times in my life, read a good book, watch a movie/play a video game to get my mind away from negative thoughts.

A good way to stop thinking about something traumatizing is by doing something you really love. That could be so many different things as people have different things they love. It can even be talking or hanging out with a close friend, relative or boy/girlfriend. The only reason why this method stops you from thinking about something traumatizing is because your mind is being occupied and is too busy to think about the traumatizing event. It may be difficult for some at first, but once you occupy yourself more by doing the things you love, your brain will grow more tired of thinking about the traumatizing event.

Dont stop, but process what is reoccurring so you learn from it. When it comes to mind, what are you feeling, what are you thinking, and what does it look like to let go? Hope that helps!

I think, by concentrating on positive way, such as praying, reading a good book, maybe by talking to someone, helping people in need. Very importantly, try to accept the traumatizing fact and heal yourself

Keep yourself busy with things that you enjoy! Sometimes not thinking about something is completely ok. One thing that has helped me the most is going for a run, trying to keep myself busy with physical activities. If you see that doesn't help, try being around friends, people who make you happy and allow you to forget about serious things in life for a few minutes/hours. We can be our own worst enemy. If you can ignoring the thoughts can be quite helpful, I know it is easier said than done, but it is completely possible. Be easy on yourself and take care.
